Home Teams Shine in 2026/2027 TCC Cup Opener

The first round of the 2026/2027 TCC Cup season kicked off over the weekend, featuring two debutants in the tournament – D Schack FA and Gaiters. At the end of the round, all home teams came out on top, starting their campaigns with varying margins of victory.

In Group A, new boys, Gaiters FC, were the biggest winners, securing a 4-2 victory against reigning champions Atlantic Business. Omotayo Abubakar was the star of the show, bagging a brace as the newbies stunned the champions.

In other Group A games, Ayomide Akinsola’s 78th-minute goal was enough to help Valiant secure victory against Gbagada. The Brave Boys, with their hard-fought victory, were the only side to keep a clean sheet in the group. A first-half blitz was enough for Beyond Limits to punish Iganmu Tiger in their opener, with two of their three goals coming in the first 10 minutes of the half.

Sporting Lagos were the highest scorers in Group B, defeating Dannaz 3-0. Both started out with the hosts creating chances but failing to convert. In the 2nd half, however, Abdullahi Aminu, Solomon Adabo and Faisal Salisu all scored in the final 25 minutes of the game to secure victory for the Lagosians.

In other Group B games, Preye Rufus was the Man of the Match in Broad City’s 2-1 win against VOE FA. The goalkeeper put in an amazing shift in goal to help Kazeem Adeyemi’s side begin their campaign with a win. Dino succumbed to defeat at the hands of D Schack FA, falling to a 2-1 defeat against the TCC Cup newbies, with Zaki Abraham scoring both goals for the hosts.
