The last round of TCC Cup group stage games have been played. And the stage is now set for the knockout phase of the competition.
In Group A, Gbagada shrugged off Dannaz with two goals in each half to finish top of the group. The Blue Eagles lived up to their nickname, soaring above every other side to finish with 11 points. With three wins out of five and without tasting defeat, the 2021 TCC Cup champions qualified as one of the best teams.
Coach Akinyelu’s side will be joined by Dino and Sporting Lagos, who finished in second and third place respectively. Dannaz completes the Group A contingents heading for the knockout phase after garnering five points from five games.
Real Sapphire scoring 20 goals in their debut TCC Cup campaign is the biggest news. Their 3-2 triumph over Beyond Limits pushed their goal difference to +13. Not only did they top the group, they were also the only side to finish the round with a 100% record.
Certainly, they’re favorites to go all the way, aren’t they?
In other Group B fixtures, Iganmu secured a second TCC Cup win of the campaign, out-scoring Escola in a seven-goal thriller. Despite the goal haul, this is how far they can go in the tournament after finishing behind Beyond Limits, Atlantic Business and Valiant.
Speaking of the last two clubs, Valiant emerged victorious when both sides clashed earlier this week, registering a 2-1 win. With that result, they finished with six points, just like Iganmu. However, unlike the Tiger, their triumph meant the finished the group stage with a goal difference of -2, bettering Iganmu’s -8.
Talk about a grand finale!
All is now set for the quarter-final draws which will take place on the 12th of February.
