The second half of the 2023/2024 TCC Cup season got off to a frantic start. From teams picking up their first win to others fighting to preserve their unbeaten run, there was a common theme: the intense fight to get necessary points needed to qualify out of the group.
In Group A, Gbagada handed Sporting Lagos its first TCC Cup loss of the season. Both teams entered the fixture tied at the top of the table. Gbadamosi Riliwan’s goal however proved to be the difference for the Blue Eagles, sending them to the top of the pile.
While Sporting Lagos slipped to third, Dino ensured Gbagada remained in sight with a 4-1 win over Broad City. The second-placed side has now scored nine times in their last two TCC Cup games. In the group’s other fixture, Dannaz picked up their first win of the campaign with a 1-0 triumph over Imperial.
In Group B, Real Sapphire made it four out of four with a 6-1 thumping of Iganmu. It’s the second time they’re scoring at least five goals in a TCC Cup game. They now sit pretty at the top of the table, two points ahead of a Beyond Limits side that was held by Atlantic Business.
It’s the first time Coach Olumide’s lads have dropped points this campaign. The result now sees them just three points ahead of Atlantic Business. In the group’s other game, Valiant registered its first TCC Cup win of the season, recording a 3-1 win over Escola. They jump to fourth on the log with the win while winless Escola remain rooted to the bottom.
