TCC Season Review 2023/24 – Iganmu Tiger

1st July, 2024

With two more participating teams joining the fray, the 2023/2024 TCC season meant more games for sides, including Iganmu, The Tigers finished the previous season in seventh and were looking to do better.

But things started on a dull note as they scored only two goals in their first three games of the season, with all ending in defeats. The delayed wait for points in October paid off in November, starting with the cup. The Tigers held on for their first set of points with a 3-2 win over Valiant. Ogede’s hat-trick did the trick as they started their cup campaign in style.

But that win was a lone star struggling to shine in the dark. As such, the first win of the month, coming on the first day of the month, did not necessarily set the tone for the rest of the month. Or year.

Iganmu’s TCC Cup triumph was followed by a seven-game losing streak which featured:

* Their biggest defeat of the season: an 8-1 thrashing at Dino

* Their biggest home loss: a 1-5 thrashing against Dannaz

* Four games in which they conceded 4+ goals

Just before the end of the year, Iganmu tried for another TCC Cup win but fell short, thereby finishing 2023 with an eight-game losing streak. They would start the year on a losing note, failing to score against Atlantic Business as they shipped three in the cup. But they found their feet for a while in the league as they managed their longest run without defeat – 2.

In those two home games, they held Dino to a 1-1 draw before recording their first win of the season, a 5-2 drubbing of Atlantic Business. Buoyed by the result, the Tigers finished off their TCC Cup campaign with a 4-3 triumph over Escola. But it wasn’t enough to secure a quarter-final ticket.

A 2-1 loss to Dannaz in the league was quickly followed by a 3-2 victory over Gbagada, their first win away from home in the league. It would end up being their last win of the season; a win that came in February. A six-game losing streak followed before they wrapped up their campaign with a goalless draw against Escola which somewhat summed up their 2023/2024 season. They failed to pick points in 17 league games, recording only nine points. There are no prizes for guessing their final position on the log table.
