TCC Season Review 2023/24 – Dannaz

1st July, 2024

Dannad finished in 4th place in the 2022/23 season and many expected them to build on that success this campaign, however, it was a different case entirely as they finished in the bottom four.

The Cedars are known for their fine wing play and games involving them produced a lot of goals. While it happened in the same way this season, they were at the receiving end of so many defeats.

Dannaz failed to score in their opening three league games of the season as they lost to Dino, Sporting Lagos, and Real Sapphire before earning a point at Escola on Match Day four. Another defeat at the hands of eventual champions Beyond Limits before a narrow loss to Imperial.

The first win of the season came for Dannaz against Iganmu Tigers on Match Day 9 as they won 5-1. It was a game where striker Joshua Obakimi scored four goals and joined the exclusive list of players who have done that in a single game in TCC history. Joshua went on to score 16 times in the campaign, but it was not enough to help his side finish in a better position. The Cedars went on to claim four more wins in their final games of the season to finish the season with 20 points from 22 games.

In the TCC Cup, Dannaz made it to the knockout stages before being knocked out by eventual winners Beyond Limits.

In all, it was a mixed season for the Lagos side and they will be looking to bounce back in the 2024/25 season with much vigor, drive, and determination to achieve something better.
