Gbagada FC 1-1 Imperial FC

Sunday 7th February, 2021

Venue: Agege Stadium

With a one-goal lead from the first leg and the home advantage, Gbagada FC faced Imperial FC for a second time in just over a week. The Blue Eagles looked to consolidate their position and gain passage to the semi-finals of the Creative Championship Cup.

But Imperial FC had other ideas.

Just like they had defeated Gbagada in the league, defying all odds, Imperial FC’s Melody Idase scored the first goal of this second-leg clash. The 38th-minute goal would draw both sides level, on aggregate. But that would only be for so long.

From a resulting set-piece, Imperial would fail to clear their lines. The ball would fall kindly to Semiu Fagbayi’s foot, who rifled home the ball, slotting home to draw Gbagada FC level and put them ahead on aggregate.

Imperial FC turned up the heat in the second half as they searched for the equalizer. At other times, they were almost caught napping at the back by the likes of Fagbayi, who failed to convert their chances. At the end of the day, Imperial FC could not find a second goal, thereby losing the fixture on aggregate.

Man of the Match

Olawoyin Wasiu, the Gbagada FC right-back was instrumental in quenching all the attacks that came through his flank.
