Imperial FC were at their imperious best, as they walloped Gbagada FC 6-1 in Ikenne on Saturday.
The home side have been good under the tutelage of Adedeji Ayeoba and their rise to being among the top three sides in the league has been remarkable.
Although they have suffered a little blip in recent weeks, they came out fighting differently against a side that has been difficult for them since the first days of TCC.
Musa AbdulMaleek handed them the advantage after just three minutes before Bilyaminu Abdullahi scored in his third consecutive league game two minutes later to double their lead at the Remo Stars stadium. As if that was not enough, Abdullahi completed his brace just before the half-hour mark to put Imperial firmly in control.
Gbagada, on the other hand, was struggling to pick passes and create chances in the final third and upon the resumption of play, they managed to get a goal back through Semiu Fagbayi in the 49th minute.
The goal helped the visitors settle down a bit as they were able to create a few more chances afterward, but none resulted in a second goal.
A monumental collapse then happened in the final three minutes of the game with Imperial scoring three late goals to claim an unprecedented win. Forward Joel Augustine scored either side of Abdullahi’s second brace of the day to inflict another massive defeat on the Blue Eagles.
