Gbagada FC vs Imperial FC

Sunday 24th January, 2021

Venue: Agege Stadium

Full-time: Gbagada FC 1-2 Imperial FC

“It was not a game we should lose.”

Those were the words of Gbenga Omolaja as he gave his post-match interview. And according to the numbers, this one was not supposed to end in a loss for the Gbagada Eagles.

Coach Akinyelu’s men entered this one as favorites, even though their form was not top notch. Up against a side yet to register a win this season, and playing at home, the odds were in their favor.

Their opponents however, had other plans. And they made their intents known as early as the 10th minute when Chidera Ezeno found the back of the net after some sustained pressure from the away side.

Coach Abdulwahab Abdulfatai’s men would hold their own in the first half, despite the onslaught of their opponents.

The second half would start off in favor of Gbagada FC as they pushed for an equalizer. That goal would come in the 52nd minute of the game when Imperial FC cleared their lines from a Gbagada FC corner-kick. With the ball falling to Omolaja just outside the 18-yard area, he rifled home to pull his side level.

The game, heading for a draw, took another turn when Peter Aondoakaa put the ball past Olootu Alaba in the 87th minute. They kept their opponents at bay till the end of the game, earning maximum points from the game.

Man of the Match

Imperial FC goalkeeper, Lamidi Yusuf was instrumental in ensuring that his side took home maximum points from this clash. His heroics between the sticks earned him the award.
