Gbagada FC 0 - 2 Beyond Limits

9th November, 2022

Beyond Limits beat Gbagada in Lagos

Beyond Limits found their rhythm in Lagos as they edged Gbagada FC 2-0 in the final game of match week 5 on Wednesday.

Prior to this game, the defending champions have failed to win a league game since beating Iganmu Tiger on match week 1, the same situation Gbagada have found themselves in – no win in three games.

By virtue of that poor run, the two sides are in the bottom half of the table, meaning it is an important game to return to winning ways.

With full knowledge of the task at hand, Ajibolade Olumide’e BYL flew out of the blocks early and dominated play in the opening quarter of the game.

That sustained pressure led to the game’s opening goal from Farouq Ogundare – a player who has scored in four of the five league games he has played this season.

More chances came for the boys in white to extend their lead but the Blue Eagles kept thwarting those foray of attacks. Gbagada barely left gear one in the first half and the visitors doubled their lead with five left minutes before the break. Skipper Onyebuchi Obasi finished off a lovely move by Ogundana Shola to slot home into an unguarded net.

After the break, Gbagada woke up and started creating chances of their own. Semiu Fagbayi and Ademola Akibu were the ones who came closest to giving Akinyelu Olajide’s side a lifeline.

If not for some resolute defensive clearance by Segun Alfred, BYL could have made it three in the dying embers of the game. However, they held onto their first half goals to claim their second win of the season.

The win takes the defending champions fourth – two points off leaders Sporting Lagos, while Gbagada are stuck in 9th with five points.
