Imperial edge Dannaz to go top

Imperial FC defeated Dannaz 3-1 at the Legacy Pitch in Lagos on Sunday.

The visitors started the game on the front foot when Peter Kareem handed them the lead after just two minutes. Dannaz were shocked by that goal and looked for some response immediately, but Sunday Okoro and the rest of the backline stood strong.

Twenty minutes later, Kenneth Sesugh made it two-nil in favour of Adedeji Ayeoba’s side. The Cedars had no answer to the foray of attacks from the visitors and it became difficult for them to find a way back into the game.

However, just three minutes after the break, Aderibigbe Paul turned home a low cross to hand his side a lifeline back into the contest. The striker made it two out of two against Imperial, having scored against them in the Cup earlier in the week.

Dannaz huffed and puffed in search of the equalizer and as they left spaces behind the defence in the dying embers of the game, Imperial found the killer punch. Musa Abdulmaleek scored in the 86th minute to put the game beyond the Lagos side.

Imperial held on for the win, which takes them top of the standings. The win also made it three consecutive wins on the bounce for Imperial, while Dannaz are currently second from bottom with just a win after four games.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Sunday Okoro (Imperial)

The defender was solid at the back and played an important role in his side’s attack throughout the contest. Easily the best performer of the day.
