Last season’s finalists Beyond Limits continued their push for a semi-final spot this term with a comprehensive 4-1 bashing of Dannaz at the Remo Stars Stadium on Wednesday night.
Being the tournament’s first ever game under the floodlights, the mood and frenzy in and around the stadium was absolutely stupendous, as the fans trooped in to see the two teams battle on the lush Ikenne turf.
Beyond Limits seized an early opportunity to go in front through Shola Ogunada in the 7th minute, before Faruq Ogundare made it two a minute before the break for the hosts. The Cedars upped their game in between those goals but failed to get a goal of their own as the half came to an end.
Eight minutes after the interval, Obakimi Joshua’s shot from the range beat the goalkeeper to offer his side a hope of a comeback. The goal woke Fatai Akandes boys up and started dominating proceedings, which forced the home side to sit back a bit.
Both gaffers made changes as the time was running out. However, Ezekiel Light, who came on as a sub for Olumide Ajibolade’s men, kept his cool in the area and rounded off the goal before firing into an empty net to make it 3-1 in the 78th minute.
Hopes of a possible comeback were dashed when Isah Abubakar side footed home just two minutes from time after the visitors failed to clear their lines.
The win takes the Sky Blues top of Group B, while Dannaz remained bottom and out of contention for a semi-final spot.
