Imperial compound Valiant’s woes in Ikenne

Imperial FC claimed a 2-1 win over Valiant at the Remo Stars stadium on Sunday.

The contest, being the final game of match week three, was between an Imperial side who have scored in every game so far and a Valiant outfit yet to score or record a win this term.

Meanwhile, the home side scored four in their previous home game, the same amount their visitors on Sunday conceded against Sporting Lagos in their last league engagement.

The game started quite well and just like the last time this pair met, five goals were scored in the game but it was Valiant who carried the day. This time around, it was Imperial’s turn to nick another win over the underperforming Lagos-based side.

Adedeji Ayeoba’s side got two quick goals through Chidera Ezeno and Ezekiel Samuel in the 16th and 22nd minutes respectively. The goals were a reflection of their brilliant start to the game.

Valiant, on the other hand, were struggling to create chances or get a grip on the game. They tried a couple of times but the chemistry and execution were lacking in the final third. However, they were able to pull one back just after the half-hour mark through Adeyemi Meshark.

As it continued to rain heavily, the teams struggled to create chances going forward. Both teams finished the game with ten men, as Sunday Okoro (imperial) and Sixtus Elegalam (Valiant) were sent off in the dying embers of the game.

In the end, Imperial kept it simple and solid at the back to claim a second successive home win of the season. The defeat leaves Valiant without a point after three match weeks.
