Iganmu Lions were tamed 2-1 by the rising stars of Remo Stars at the Agege stadium on Saturday evening in the first game of match day two of the creative championship.
The home side came into the game with the point picked on the road and rightly began the game as favourites against the Remo boys who lost at home last time out.
In the early exchanges, the visitors were in clear ascendancy and created more goalscoring opportunities to go ahead but they kept missing them criminally as they were unable to test the home side’s in-form goalie Ubong Monday.
Nine minutes before the half-hour mark, Oluwaseun Odunsi made a bursting run into Iganmu’s territory, fed Morgan Agbeko with a delightful pass, who in turn then set up Sola Ogundana for his second goal of the season.
The hosts failed to create quality chances in the rest of the half and when they did, Olisa Emmanuel was there to thwart them.
Upon the restart of the game, change of personnel and system swung the game in Iganmu’s favour, but they struggled to make the opposition goalkeeper work at all. Remo Stars’ substitute Chuka Nwaigwe then got sent off for dissent midway through the second half, but that didn’t hinder Olumide Ajibolade’s men from getting the much needed second goal.
In the 73rd minute, Iganmu FC’s goalie Ubong failed to control a back-pass, Ope Atsanni picked it from him and placed it on a plate for Morgan to slot home into an unguarded net.
Coach Kazeem Abioye and his boys remain without a goal and no win yet, which would be a rising concern for them while it was the desired response after the opening day home defeat for Remo Stars and coach Ajibolade.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Remo Stars’ Morgan Agbeko was simply unplayable throughout the game. He expertly created the first goal and helped himself to a goal in the second half.
