Sporting Lagos laboured to a 2-1 win over Gbagada at in their match week 15 clash at the Legacy Pitch on Friday.
The mini Lagos derby pitched second-placed Sporting against the Blue Eagles who have been underwhelming in the league this season.
As expected, it was quite an open game in the scorching sun as Sporting were looking to close the gap between them and Beyond Limits to one point. Gbagada have goalkeeper Mubarak Lawal to thank for keeping them in the game for large parts of the first half.
However, with a minute to the end of the first half the visitors found the game’s opening goal through Godspower Akekoromowei – a well deserved lead. Just three minutes after the break, the home side found themselves level in the 65th minute via Wasiu Balogun from a set-piece routine.
As the minute go by, Coach Micah Bello’s men kept pushing for a winning goal but Mubarak kept denying them. In the final five minutes of the game, they found a breakthrough as Godspower completed his brace and handed his side all three points.
