The top-of-the-table clash between Imperial and Gbagada ended in an entertaining 2-2 draw on
Wednesday evening.
After Beyond Limits won at Atlantic Business earlier in the day, it became imperative for the Blue
Eagles to win at Imperial in order to keep pace with the defending champions.
They got off to a flyer when Ademola Akibu fired them into the lead after just six minutes of play.
The hosts responded by creating chances in the final third in search of the equalizer.
However, if not for their lack of accuracy in front of goal and some excellent goalkeeping from
Olotu Alaba, the Odogboolu side should have been level.
However, with enough chances to see more goals in the half, both teams failed to convert as the
half ended in a halftime lead to Gbagada.
It looking like Gbagada’s day until Adedeji Ayeoba’s men turned it around just after the hour
mark. Bilyaminu Abdullahi first restored parity from the spot before Solo Ouerasogo scored to
put the home side in the lead for the first time in the game.
From thereon, Imperial began to manage the game and were hoping to complete the double
over the Lagosians. However, skipper Semiu Fagbayi scored a excellent goal from just inside the area to drag Akinyelu Olajide’s men level.
A fair result for both sides in the end but more of a setback to Gbagada’s title aspirations.
