Gbagada continue top-of-the-table chase with Emmydinho win

Gbagada continued their journey towards the top of the table with a win over Emmydinho.

The Blue Eagles started the game on the front foot, applying pressure as early as the 10th minute of the game, recording a first shot (off target) in the 18th minute.

Not to be pushed aside, Emmydinho pushed for the first goal of the game. However, goalkeeper Oligbinde was up to the task, thwarting the danger of the opposition team. His saves would pay off in the 27th minute as Wasiu Balogun was on hand to head in from an Akibu flick.

Coach Akinyelu’s side was the stronger of the two sides as they pressed for a second goal. The half would however end with just one goal as Gbagada took the lead into the break.

The away side started the second with the same aim: to find a second goal. A goal-scoring chance went begging in the 48th minute, and was followed by an Olugbe block on an Emmydinho chance. This back-and-forth was quickly followed by an attacking move which Rilwan Gbadamosi calmly finished off in the 55th minute.

The hosts replied with a goal of their own in the 62nd minute as John Okoro pulled one back. Not wanting their opponents to have any bit of hope for a comeback, Ademola Akibu made the most of their aerial advantage as he was on hand to head in a cross from Alfred.

The rest of the game saw both sides miss out on chances to add to their goal tally, with Emmydinho finishing the game with yet another loss.
