For the second time in the space of a week, Imperial scored six goals against Gbagada as they handed the Blue Eagles back-to-back defeats.
Fresh off an impressive home win over Gbagada, Imperial turned visitors who were wary of their wounded hosts. The highest-scoring side in the first half of the season wanted to start the second half in grand style.
And they couldn’t have asked for a better start to their game as they found themselves to goals to the good in the first 10 minutes of the game. Just like Bilyaminu last week, it was Joel Augustine who got two goals within eight minutes, thereby handing the visitors the initiative.
Caught off guard but not overly shaken, Gbagada gathered themselves together and Issa Jamiu got the first goal for the host. A very enjoyable first half finished with Imperial having the last say as Bilyaminu Abdullahi got in on the scoring act in the 41st minute.
Rattled but still confident, Gbagada pushed hard to pull one back. But in a search for their goal, they were caught napping and conceded two quick-fire goals – in the 51st minute and in the 62nd minute of the game. Joel’s hat trick and Ezeno Chidera’s goal was followed by Yusuf Salau’ 69th-minute goal – which was Imperial’s sixth.
Gbagada’s Sanda Gabriel would get a late goal for the Blue Eagles but it was not enough as Coach Akinyelu’s men were comprehensively beaten for a second time in a row.
