Valiant claimed an opening day win in Creative Championship Cup on Sunday, with a 2-1 win over Dino SC at the Remo Stars stadium, Ikenne.
Both clubs reached the semis of the competition last season and were hoping to have the best possible start to the competition this campaign.
New Valiant front man Abiodun Toheeb turned home a simple cross from fullback Elegalam Sixtus after the opposition failed to clear their lines for the game’s opening goal.
Meanwhile, Dino SC weren’t behind for long as the Brave Boys’ goalkeeper Hammed Saheed fouled an opposition in the area. Ikechukwu Henry stepped up to convert and restore parity.
Dino SC started coming forward for a second goal, but they were punished some minutes after the half-hour mark after a lovely pass from Nwoke Favour found left-back Yusuf Zakariyya, who calmly slotted past the onrushing goalkeeper.
After the break, both teams cancelled each other out, as they failed to convert the few chances that came their way in the second stanza of the game.
Most importantly, Valiant held on for a memorable win despite a late push from Gibson Godwin’s men to find a leveler.
