The Creative Championships kicked off amidst less fanfare and glamour, with the peculiarity of the COVID times not lost on everyone alike.
However, the tournament’s curtain raiser was anything but, with Remo and Valiant serving up a classic that the subsequent matches must outdo. The Gallant Warriors spent the better part of the game under the cosh but had Lukman Ibrahim’s finishing to thank.
Lukman had sent warnings earlier, producing the first shot of the game in the seventh minute with a shot that flew wide. The 21-year old forward would prove to be a danger time and again every time the Warriors went forward, earning two goals in the process.
His first goal, however, would come against the run of play.
With Remo already in the ascendency, Lukman would take down a good pass before tucking it beyond the reach of goalkeeper Olisa. A quick reaction would come from the home side, and their forwardman, Ogundana Oluwashola, would be denied a scoring opportunity with a solid defensive interception by 17-year old Muktar Mohammed.
It proved to be the story of the second half, with Remo unable to find a way through, and getting duly punished. With five minutes left, Lukman Ibrahim, would beat his marker, completing his brace with a sumptuous finish.
Remo would get a late penalty, converted by Ogundana, but the deed was already done.
Valiant return to Lagos with all 3 points, leaving Coach Olumide Ajibolade and Remo with plenty of work to do in their next game.
