Lagos hosted The last game of the first matchday of the Creative Championships and it did not disappoint. Gbagada FC rounded up the action with a nervy win against Ijebu United as two sides tipped as heavy favorites battled for supremacy.
It was the Blue Eagles who fired the first salvo, with Captain Semiu Fagbayi firing wide after good footwork on the left. The captain would be at the heart of everything positive for the home side.
It didn’t take long for Gbagada’s early industry to be rewarded as they were awarded with the fourth penalty of the competition after Eya Solomon was tripped in the 32nd minute.
Edema stepped up,and calmly slotted past the goalkeeper to hand the hosts the advantage. It would be the only goal of a first half that often promised to explode with goals.
The home side would begin the second half the same way they ended the first, with captain Fagbayi once again proving a thorn in the flesh of the visitors drawing save after save from the goalie. However, momentum would swing after the hour mark, with Ijebu United letting fly but not hitting the mark.
Gbagada Coach, Olajide Akinyelu would reshuffle his pack upon smelling the danger, with the home side limping over the line after defender Gbadamosi was sent off for time wasting after accruing an initial yellow for a flagrant foul.
The first red card of the competition would prove a mixed end to the first week’s proceedings, with the second week hopefully surpassing the standards set.
