It was a tight contest between Gbagada FC and Dannaz at the Legacy Pitch in their match week one fixture of the TCC League on Sunday.
The Blue Eagles started as favourites and were quick out of the blocks in the opening exchanges that left the visitors unsettled. Hitman Ademola Akibu struck the woodwork in the fifth minute to come close to getting the game’s opening goal.
That chance was the best goalscoring opportunity of the half as both sides failed to carve out clear opportunities on the wet playing surface in Surulere.
Coach Akinyelu Olajide then made changes in the game, bringing in one of last season’s team of the season recipient Balogun Wasiu and Semiu Fagbayi. On the other hand, coach Fatai Akande also made his own changes as the game started opening up.
As the game looked destined to end in a stalemate, Gbagada got the breakthrough through Sanda Gabriel in the 85th minute. The home side tried increasing their lead late on but Semiu fluffed his lines at the crucial moment.
In the end, Gbagada held on for a 1-0 win – their third successive season opener with a similar scoreline.
