Defending Champions Held in Ikenne

Defending TCC Cup champions Gbagada played out a 1-1 draw with new league entrants Atlantic Business at the Remo Stars stadium, Ikenne.

Gbagada started the game brightly, wasting numerous goal scoring chances to go in front as Adiro Olayinka’s boys couldn’t cope with their pressing in the opening exchanges.

Meanwhile, the newbies grew into the game and started creating chances of their own, but they couldn’t find a breakthrough at all, as the half ended goalless.

At the hour mark, the God’s own team were awarded a spot kick after Gbagada LB Sadiq Ali was penalised for a foul in the area; Williams Tajudeen converted with ease from 12 yards to open the scoring.

The goal woke the Blue Eagles up, they upped the ante and went in search of the equaliser. Chances kept coming, but they lacked the composure in the final third to find a leveler.

With time running out, Sadiq stayed up in Atlantic’s box to fire home from range and restore parity in the 80th minute for Akinyelu Olajide’s men.

And that was how it stayed for the remaining minutes of the game, with both sides settling for a share of the spoils.
