Broad City edge Valiant in close contest

Broad City and Valiant clashed in the final game of the opening game week and it was the home side who finished as winners.

Both sides struggled throughout last season and were keen to make a statement as the 2022/23 season got underway.

It was the visitors who started the game brightly, dominating possession with the likes of Elegalam Sixtus, Nwoke Favour and Ogbonnaya Ifeanyi linking up brilliantly in the middle of the park. However, they struggled to create any goalscoring chance, while the hosts stood strong and relied on attempts from outside the area.

The game’s biggest chance came in the 27th minute and that got Broad City the opening goal. Delivery from the left side by Hanif Sanusi was met by a firm header from Azuka Alanta to put Oluwaseun Ogunmoyero’s side ahead in the derby.

Their previous meeting produced five goals and this one looked nothing close, as both sides kept keeping attackers at bay and denying them spaces in the final third.

After the break, it was the Brave Boys who threatened to find an equalizer but goalkeeper Olawale Busari was on hand to deny them in those moments.

Despite changes made to change the dynamics of the game, none of them was able to have the much-needed impact as Broad City held on for an opening-day win.
