Champions begin new season in style

Defending Champions Beyond Limits started the new season in style with a comfortable 3-0 win over Iganmu Tiger FC in Ikenne on Saturday.

Coach Olumide Ajibolade’s side have won the league in the past two seasons and just wanted to start the new 2022/23 campaign in the best possible way and they did just that in front of the home support.

Iganmu, on the other hand, have been poor starters in the past seasons and brought the same form into this game as their abysmal record against the Ogun-based side was extended.

The home side took charge of the game from the blast of the whistle with the usual stars  Musa Abdullahi and Ayomide Ogungbe dominating the midfield battle early on. Chances were not coming for either side as they sought to settle into the game.

With the possession, BYL looked more likely to score but the chances they got were not put away by wingers Shola Ogundana and Onyebuchi Obasi. Iganmu keeper Emeka Uzor was rarely tested as both sides settled for a goalless affair in the opening half.

After the break, BYL turned up the screw a bit and they were rewarded when Farouq Ogundare won a penalty and duly converted by himself just two minutes before the hour mark. One soon became two when Shola made amends for the earlier miss to notch his first goal of the season.

With just two minutes left on the clock, Arhieri kparobo added the icing on the cake by firing home a rebound to complete the rout for the junior Sky Blue Stars.

The Champions got the expected start and win, while the Tigers will have to go back to the drawing board ahead of their second league game against Gbagada.BYL will be guests of Atlantic Business in Ijebu Ode.
