Top-of-the-table Sporting Lagos were unable to get past Escola as they settled for a draw.
The hosts, with their minds set on climbing away from ninth on the log, started the game in fine fashion. And in seven minutes, they got their opening goal through Adeniyi Abass.
A long goal-kick was flicked onto the striker’s path. Having outrun his marker, Abass took aim and fired at goal. His first was however parried into his path by Harcourt Ebenezer. He would get the opportunity for a rebound, one he didn’t miss as he put his side in the lead.
The goal served as a morale booster as they remained on top of the game for most of the half, keeping the visitors at bay.
In the second half however, Sporting Lagos came out the better side, bent on getting the equalizer. After several attempts, they found their breakthrough goal in the 71st minute through Ishaq Nazeeru.
Sporting Lagos won a free-kick at the edge of the area after Boluwatife was rough-handled. John Lucky quickly took it, sending it sideways instead to the defender who let fly from 25 yards out. Chike Chinedu stood no chance in goal as the ball rattled the onion bag.
Both sides had to settle for a point at the end of the day as the leaders narrowly avoided defeat.
