Escola, Broad City Settle for Draw

Escola and Broad City could not get past each other as they had to settle for a 1-1 draw.

It was an energetic start to the game as both sides came out guns blazing. For the hosts, the full-backs were made busy as they had their hands full dealing with the visitors’ wingers. In spite of all the early action, fans had to wait till the 31st minute to get the game’s first goal.

Kingsley Anuruegbe was at the center of the first goal as he used his pace to outrun his marker down the left flank. His low cross to the right found Abass Adeniyi, a marauding wing-back who maintained his composure to fire the ball past Isaac Okeoghene.

The pressure was now on the underperforming visitors to level up and match Escola’s energy. For large parts of the game, they played second fiddle – in the tackles, for the second balls, as well as chances created.

They got their chances early in the second half. Half of the time, it was thrown away by an incompetent strike force. At other times, the Escola defense came out on top.

They were however relentless in their search and pulled one back two minutes from time.

In a bid to stop the visitors from scoring, a Broad City player was felled in the box. The referee awarded a penalty, upstepped Abayomi Joshua, and converted, to break the hearts of Escola players and fans.

There would be no latter drama as both sides shared the spoils.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Abass Adeniyi (Escola United)

Very little got past the pacy wing-back. His marauding forays into the opponents’ third put him in a perfect spot to get his side’s only goal of the clash.
