Real Sapphire soared higher than the Blue Eagles as they recorded victory in a tight win.
The encounter started as a quiet one, with the first real action, a free-kick, coming in the 23rd minute of the game – one which Balogun curled over the bar.
Abidemi Olalekan danced past a Gbagada defender, before threading a pass through to Olawale Ayodele. The left-winger was perfectly placed to send the ball home as the hosts opened their account.
For all their attempts to get back in the game, Coach Akinyelu’s men failed to break through Real Sapphire’s defense. Their struggles continued in the second half, as the hosts remained resolute.
The game remained tight until the end. It was however the hosts who came out on top as Gbagada failed to score for a second game in a row.
