REPORT: MD5 – Iganmu 0 – 2 Gbagada

Gbagada Keeps Soaring After Clinching First Clean Sheet and Away Win

Gbagada continued their fine start to the season with another win, this time, defeating Iganmu 2-0.

The visitors, looking to continue their unbeaten start to the campaign, started on the front foot, putting early pressure on their hosts. Eight minutes later, their efforts paid off as they broke the deadlock. A quick counter-attacking play caught the Iganmu defense off-guard. Before they could find their footing, Habeeb Adeniran found space behind the last line and poked one home.

Despite conceding the early goal, the hosts held their own, instead of caving in and giving up on the game. What ensued was a keenly contested half that saw both sides evenly matched. And even in the 2nd half, there was little to separate the two sides, save for the early goal.

The clash seemed destined to end in a lone-goal victory for Coach Akinyelu’s men until they added another nine minutes from time. Malik’s fierce shot bounced off the woodwork and hit goalie Alao Lekan on its way into the net for Gbagada’s second.

The win sees Gbagada climb up to 3rd as the Blue Eagle soars closer to the top spot. On the other hand, the Tigers’ bright start to the campaign has now suffered a heavy dent after suffering consecutive home losses. They must now find a way to get back to winning ways and stop the slide that has seen them drop down to 7th on the standings.
