Title: Beyond Limits Clip Eagles’ Wings with Five-Star Performance
Beyond Limits opened the weekend’s league action with a 5-3 win over Gbagada.
The goal fest started with Gbagada threatening to score first, in the fifth minute. Fagabayi’s cross, from the left, just went over the goalkeeper, and onto the crossbar. The visitors however got the first goal of the game in a counter-attacking move.
After clearing Beyond Limits’ corner kick, Coach Akinyelu’s men quickly turned it into a two-on-one situation. Eniola found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper and curled the ball past him into the bottom corner.
Conceding in the first six minutes of the game rattled the hosts. Rattled but unshaken, they gradually grew back into the game. By the 20th minute, they drew level as Kparaobo was well-positioned to tuck the ball from close range after a counter-attacking move.
The hosts roared into the lead 13 minutes later. As Mubarak fumbled the ball from a cross, Kparaobo, a fox in the box all game long, pounced, and again, scored from close range. A cheap goal to give away against the reigning champions.
Mubarak made up for his error just before the break as Beyond Limits broke Gbagada’s defensive ranks with a counterattack. This time, he rose to the occasion and made the save.
Three goals in the first half but there was more to come in the second. And it was Gbagada who got the first of the half, in the 52nd minute. Alfred’s fiery shot from outside the box evaded everyone and snuck its way into the bottom right-hand corner of Beyond Limits’ goal.
Parity was restored but there was still plenty of time for more goal attempts and more goals.
Four minutes later, it was the turn of Coach Olumide’s side to restore their lead. A mix-up at the back by Gbagada defenders saw the ball roll kindly to Bilyaminu Abdullahi. The former Imperial player, now through on goal, danced his way past the goalkeeper and found space beyond two Gbagada players on the line to score Beyond Limits’ third.
Kparaobo completed his hat-trick in the 62nd minute, again finding space in the box to score from close range. Two minutes later, four became five as the whitewashing was completed. And although the Blue Eagles pulled one back, it wasn’t enough as Coach Akinyelu’s men slumped to yet another defeat.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Kparaobo Arierhi (Beyond Limits)
With all his goals coming inside the area, Kparaobo was the fox in the box, spoiling the Gbagada vineyard with a hat trick.
