Broad City pipped Gbagada 1-0 in match day two’s opening fixture. The City Boys opened the campaign with an impressive win over Beyond Limits last week and showed some grit to beat the Blue Eagles at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena, Onikan on Saturday.
Despite dominating large spells of the game, the hosts have themselves to blame for missing glaring chances throughout the contest.
The Blue Eagles should have gone ahead from the spot in the 20th minute but midfielder Wasiu Balogun dragged his effort wide from 12 yards. As the half continued, the likes of Rilwan Gbadamosi, Jamiu Issa, and Semiu Fagbayi failed to apply the finishing touch in the final third.
Against the run of play, the visitors got the game’s opening goal through Sanusi Hanif early in the second half. The winger lifted the ball over the onrushing Gbagada goalkeeper Babalola.
The home side huffed and puffed after that, but despite having goalscoring chances to get back on level terms, the attackers lacked the accuracy in the final third, and Broad City deservedly walked away with all three points.
Gbagada succumbed to their second successive defeat in the new season – the worst start to any TCC campaign. Broad City have won their opening two TCC League games of the season for the first time.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Sanusi Hanif (Broad City)
The winger worked his socks off in the contest and helped his side maintain their 100% start to the new season. He also took his goal brilliantly. It is his second successive man of the match award.
