Broad City Double Sinks Sporting Lagos in Battle for Fourth

Broad City retained their fourth spot after defeating Sporting Lagos.

The visitors started the fixture in fifth, three points behind Broad City. And they started the game determined to knock their hosts off their perch and replace them. They however couldn’t make the most of the chances they had, with most players misfiring.

Broad City, on the other hand, missed a golden opportunity to open the scoring in the 15th minute of the game. After a counter-attacking move, Bakare Ayomide received the ball with only the goalkeeper to beat. He however sent the ball over the bar to groans from the home supporters.

Both sides remained inseparable after the half with all to play for in the second.

The hosts went on to break the deadlock in the 69th minute as Ezugwu Uche’s header was adjudged by the referee to have crossed the line despite a goal line clearance. By the 77th minute, Coach Shola’s boys were two goals down as second-half substitute Terhide Moses sealed their fate.

The struggle continues for Sporting Lagos as they now have a solitary win in their last seven games.
