REPORT: MD1 – Gbagada FC 2 – 2 Sporting Lagos

Spoils Shared in Lagos Derby

Gbagada and Sporting Lagos played out a 2-2 draw in the opening game of the 2026/2027 TCC League season.

The first half of the Lagos derby kicked off as a quiet affair, with both sides not creating much. The game, however, came alive on the half-hour mark, as Joseph Ifechukwu was in the right place at the right time to make a timely goal-line clearance.

But the visitors, not to be denied, found the breakthrough in the 38th minute. They were awarded a penalty after Solomon Adabo was brought down in the 18-yard area. Faisal Salisu stepped up and converted to put the visitors in front.

It didn’t take long for the Blue Eagles to respond. Malik Fatai, in the third minute of stoppage time, powered home from close range with a solid header to pull his side level going into the break.

The tale of the tape stayed the same in the second half as fans again waited till the final 15 minutes of the half to celebrate another goal. An unmarked Ephraim Luka put his side ahead in the 78th minute with a header before Malik Fatai completed his double, drawing Gbagada level again three minutes from time.

Not the best start both sides were hoping for. For both coaches, however, there are plenty of positives to take away from the performance.
