REPORT: MD8 – Sporting Lagos 3 – 2 Dannaz

Late Sporting Lagos Winner Quells Dannaz Come-back

Sporting Lagos moved up to fourth after defeating Dannaz 3-2 in a game that either side could have won.

The game kicked off with the hosts threatening to break the deadlock from the edge of the box. The resulting shot was, however, off target. There’d be no denying them 15 minutes later, as Abuch Lawrence finished in style, skipping past his marker before tucking the ball home.

The hosts did not let up their dominance, and it earned them another goal in the 35th minute. Abuchi was again at the scene, this time drifting in from the left before firing a thunderous shot that extended his side’s lead. Dannaz would however get the last laugh of the half, pulling one back through Monike Akhigbe.

That goal, combined with Coach Fatai’s half-time pep talk, invigorated the Cedars coming into the 2nd half. And they would make it count, with Monike grabbing a brace after converting from the spot in the 50th minute. With things balanced, and the both sides cancelling each other out, the game seemed destined for a draw… until the 81st minute.

After coming on a minute earlier, Abdullahi Aminu was in just the right spot to make the most of a rebound and put his side in front. His goal would make the difference as the hosts bagged a third win of the season, scoring three goals in a championship game for the second time this season.
