Gbagada Continues Fine Form as Penalty Miss Hunts Atlantic Business

Gbagada continued their unbeaten start to the season with a 1-0 victory over Atlantic Business.

Both sides began the contest evenly matched, but it was the hosts who registered their intent first after eight minutes of play. A decent goal however was enough to deny Gbagada an early lead. The hosts continued to dominate proceedings and threatened to break the deadlock in the 38th minute. Again. Kizito was on hand to keep the visitors in the game.

The 2nd half continued like the 1st, with Gbagada dominating possession and threatening to score. But for all of their dominance, Kizito remained resolute to shut them out and, at least, earn his side a point in the clash. But it wasn’t enough as Gbagada went ahead in the 58th minute through Habeeb Adeniran.

The TCC Cup champions, staring another defeat in the face, pushed for an equalizer. And minutes later, they were awarded a penalty. This time, it was Samuel Bassey’s turn to deny the visitors as he took care of business with an impressive save.

For all of their ball possession in the dying minutes of the game, there’d be no comeback for Atlantic Business as they stumbled to a third defeat on the bounce, slipping down to 9th on the log. With only one win so far this season, the climb back up is looking like an uphill task for Coach Adiro this season. The Blue Eagles have no such worries as the victory sees them move up to 2nd place, two points behind the leaders.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Habeeb Adeniran (Gbagada)

No stranger to scoring this season, his game-winning goal has to be the most special so far this season.
