REPORT: MD4 – Gbagada 2 – 1 Dannaz

Dannaz Kryptonite Strikes Again as Blue Eagles Shine

For a fourth game running, Dannaz conceded a goal in the final 15 minutes of the game, losing 2-1 to Gbagada.

Both sides began the game on the front foot, creating chances in their search for an early goal. The hosts threatened to break the deadlock in the 21st minute. Habeeb’s header however went wide, before Bassey was called into action three minutes later, an attempt forcing him to make a save.

By the half hour mark however, the breakthrough came, for Gbagada, through Itunu Olushola. Malik Fatai brilliantly beat his marker down the flanks before threading in a cross from the left which Itunu was on hand to convert.

On the stroke of half-time, Itunu was at it again, prodding for a brace. His jab was however parried by John Hassan, a save that became even more timely when Dannaz drew level before the half-time whistle. In the second minute of stoppage time, Abdullahi Usman was on hand to poke the ball home from close range after Samuel Bassey fumbled the free-kick attempt.

Just like they did in the 1st half, both sides went band for band in the 2nd half, tugging at each other in a tightly contested encounter. 14 minutes from time, Dannaz went behind again, this time from the penalty spot, with Ronaldo Akinyelu blasting his side into the lead. There’d be no coming back from this one for Coach Fatai’s boys as they missed out on the opportunity to earn their second point of the season.

The result sees Gbagada climb up to fourth while setting a worrying trend for Dannaz. Can they catch the slump with a first clean sheet in their next game?
