REPORT: MD4 – Imperial 1 – 1 Iganmu

Tigers Claw Their Way Back in Odogbolu Draw

Imperial maintained their unbeaten start to the season, despite letting a one-goal slip and sharing the spoils with Iganmu.

The hosts began the game in high spirit, threatening to score from a free-kick in the 10th minute. Five minutes later, it was Lekan Alao who pulled off another save from another free-kick to keep his side in the game. The visitors eventually conceded in the 19th minute. And although the goal was ruled out for offside, the pressure was building.

Coach Franklin’s boys would eventually find their breakthrough in the 24th minute. Thompson thumped one beyond an outstretched Lekan and into the right corner of the net to break the deadlock. One almost became two in the 38th minute. Lekan was however up to the task this time, parrying the long shot away for a corner.

In their push for an equalizer, the napping Tigers gradually staggered out of their slumber and grew into the game. And 14 minutes in, they pulled one back after a counter-attack, which forced a defensive mix-up in Imperial’s defense, saw the ball bounce off one of the hosts and into the net.

The hosts continued to dominate proceedings and create chances. They were however met with a goalkeeper who was resolute to shut them out in the 2nd half. The game ended with both sides sharing the points and Imperial slipping down to second on the log, albeit on goal difference.
