Beyond Limits, needed penalties to fend off Sporting Lagos’ challenge and win their first-ever TCC Cup.
Fresh off conquering the league, Coach Olumide entered the game seeking to become the first manager to complete the double. And they were in front just 11 minutes into the game, thanks to Kparobo Arierhi’s goal.
The striker’s relentless efforts were useful as he needed multiple attempts before finally connecting with the ball, slotting it home, and breaking the deadlock. But their opponents, unfazed, drew level three minutes later.
The striker found space behind an uncoordinated Beyond Limits defense. He connected well with the pass he received before slotting beneath the keeper’s arms and into the net. The keenly contested game turned out to be anything but boring, a satisfying watch for the fans.
In the 33rd minute, the decibels in the stadium spiked again, as fans cheered Victory Iboro’s super goal. From just beyond the halfway line, Victor released a thunderous shot that Roberto Carlos must have watched in envy.
The Lagosians succumbed to a first-half defeat but came into the second seeking an equalizer. And they would get it in the 75th minute as Yusuf Abdullahi was again on hand to silence the home crowd.
Both sides remained inseparable after 90 minutes thereby forcing the game into penalties. While Sporting Lagos lost their first penalty, Beyond Limits missed their fifth. The hosts scored six of the seven penalties attempted.
Sporting Lagos, on the other hand, had their seventh pen saved by Daniel Aiyenugba. This was Coach Shola’s first attempt to win the trophy while the triumph was Coach Olumide’s third time asking.
A memorable end to an exciting season – an unforgettable season that saw Beyond Limits take all their opponents beyond the limits as they made history.
