TCC Season Review 2023/24 – Atlantic Business

1st July, 2024

Atlantic Business’ 2022/2023 season was one to forget as they finished in ninth place. They had their work cut out for them entering the new season. With a new manager at the helm, the task was simple: Start the season strong and finish it well.

Their 23/24 season however kicked off with a false start, as Coach Warri Charles suffered a 4-1 defeat at the hands of Dino. The wait for a first win of the season lasted two more MatchDays, with Atlantic Business triumphing over Imperial on MatchDay 3.

Their first away win was followed by their second draw of the season before a first home win – a 2-0 win over Valiant. The home games were coming in thick and fast for the ‘Shield of Africa’ holders. But they failed to make the most of the run, losing to Sporting Lagos and playing a goalless draw against Beyond Limits. Being the only side to stop the champions from scoring in a league game was one of the high points of the season. But it did nothing to affect their season as they followed the feat with a 3-2 loss to Gbagada.

The stuttering side in the league was a different team in the cup, as they managed consecutive clean sheets, held Beyond Limits to yet another draw, and qualified for the quarter-final. Their topsy-turvy run in the league continued into the new year as Atlantic Business failed to win two games in a row. A win over Iganmu was followed by back-to-back losses to Dannaz before a heavy 5-2 defeat against bottom-of-the-table Iganmu FC.

They bounced back against Gbagada before holding Beyond Limits to yet another draw, the

third of the season. This began a run of four games during which Atlantic Business managed

consecutive draws – against Sporting Lagos and Valiant. After losing to Gbagada in the cup,

Coach Warri’s lads shifted their focus to the league. They would go on to record three wins in a row, including the biggest of the season – a 5-1 drubbing of Broad City. Talk about saving the best for last.

Their last hoorah was only enough to earn them a seventh-place finish. Finishing the league as the best of the bottom half means they did better than last season. But they’ll be aiming for more going into the next season.
