Title contenders, mid-table finishers. The Blue Eagles may yet introspect as to where the season went south. 2023-24 was one to forget, but it ended on a high, and they seemingly took that personally heading into 2024-25.
A slow start with 2 losses on the road to Real Sapphire and Atlantic Business did not surprise. It was as expected. However, they did proceed to win 5 straight games with 3 1-0 wins over VOE, Imperial, and Dannaz, followed by consecutive 4-2 wins at Dino and Iganmu. They would lose once for the remainder of the first half of the season, winning 2 more games, including a statement 1-0 win at Beyond Limits. They had built a title resume. They seemingly consolidated by winning 5 of their first 7 matches in the second half of the season. Beyond Limits and Sporting Lagos, the spoilers in that run. In fact, the Tech Boys were the only ones to take four points off them in that span.
Talk of a title success was beginning to gather buzz. They headed into Week 19 with real excitement, and it all fell apart. A team that was just a win and a draw off the top fell to a shock home loss to Imperial, and another shock loss to Dannaz. If anybody thought it was a graze, it had now become a full-blown wound. A third straight defeat to Atlantic Business, characterized by a comedy of errors, would follow suit, and when the title was to be decided, they were not even in the picture. A game that could have decided who would be champions was a meek 4-1 surrender to Real Sapphire, who would lift their crown.
Another season of a near miss. It was a similar Cup story, where after winning 2 and drawing 1, they did just enough progress behind Beyond Limits, Imperial, and VOE. A 2-1 quarter-final win over Sporting Lagos meant they got their lick back for the league disappointments, but wilted in the TCC Cup semifinals, falling 3-1 to an inspired Dino team, who have now knocked them out twice in the last 3 seasons.
