Valiant and Iganmu Eliminated as TCC Cup Group Phase Comes to An End

The curtain has now been drawn on the group stages of the TCC Cup as eight teams progressed to the knockout phase.

In Group A, Real Sapphire and VOE FA finished as the group’s best two sides after a campaign without defeat. The reigning league champions held on for a 1-1 draw against Dino SC while VOE put Valiant to the sword with a 4-1 victory, two goals in each half.

At the other end of the table, Valiant, with only two goals to their name, finished bottom of the standings. The Brave Boys have now been eliminated as the top four sides progress to the next phase.

The battle for the top spot was the center of attraction in Group B. And the contest between Beyond Limits and Atlantic Business did not disappoint. Both sides threatened to score early but it was Coach Olumide’s side who went ahead in the 17th minute, thanks to a Daniel Ariehi volley.

Daniel would get his brace seven minutes into the 2nd half after being put through on goal. The 40 minutes of play that followed featured several attempts by the visitors to draw level. But all their efforts were thwarted by Daniel Aiyenugba, whose saves maintained Beyond Limits’ lead. The win ensured the Ikenne-based side finished the group phase top of the group.

Sporting Lagos were the other big winners from the group as they put five past Iganmu, confirming elimination for the Tigers, who scored just one goal in five games. Gbagada extended their unbeaten streak to three games with a 1-0 victory over Dannaz, eliminating the Cedars consequently.
