Iganmu FC failed to consolidate on the point picked away from home against Gbagada last week, as they lost 3-1 to high-flying Valiant FC on Sunday.
The game got off to the best possible start for the away side when Iganmu defender Aina Oluwaseun turned a cross into his own net after some neat work from the duo of Lukman Ibrahim and Babatunde Akinsola in the eight minute.
Iganmu settled into the game, but they failed to trouble the Brave boys’ goalkeeper. Things went from bad to worse for the home side as David Lawrence was sent-off for an off the ball incident.
The dismissal didn’t deter Kazeem Abioye’s boys from getting back into the game and they duly did that ten minutes from the halftime break. Sam Darlington dispatched a penalty kick confidently after some atrocious defending from the Valiant defender.
After the break, it became one-way traffic as the unbeaten visitors kept piling up the pressure, but Iganmu goalie Ubong Richard was up to the task, making a string of saves to keep his side in the game.
Five minutes after the hour mark, Ibrahim headed home a sumptuous delivery from Babatunde from a corner for his side’s second lead of the evening. Iganmu FC kept pushing for an equaliser but it never came as the visitors kept their composure and controlled possession with utmost authority.
Valiant also had Muftar Muhammad sent off late in the game, but Lukman and Babatunde had combined for a third goal before then, with the former finding himself 1-v-1 with Ubong and easily slotted past him.
It was a complete performance cum dominance from Coach Achieve Yunus and his boys who reclaimed top spot from Remo Stars and go into the break unbeaten and top of the #TCCLeague.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Valiant’s Babatunde Akinsola was a menace down the right all evening. He skinned his markers for fun, involved in all the goals and was at the centre of every attacking play from the visitors. A monstrous performance from the nimble-footed winger.
