Title Holders Slump Again as Gbagada Soar at Home

Real Sapphire suffered a third loss in a row as they slumped to a 1-0 defeat at Gbagada.

The reigning champions, having conceded eight goals in their last two games, came into the contest vulnerable. And it showed in their gameplay as Gbagada dominated early proceedings. 23 minutes later, that dominance led to a goal, as the hosts broke the deadlock.

A well-worked team move saw the ball fly toward Ayuba Lawal in the opposition’s 18-yard area. His left-footed volley tucked the ball into the far right of the goal, with the winger going for direction, instead of power. 

All over the place, the Real Sapphire team were the opposite of the crystal they’re named after. Gaps in the defense created scoring chances for Gbagada, all of which they missed out on converting. Up front, the reigning champions found no answer for a sturdy Gbagada defense.

The status quo would remain until the final whistle as Gbagada extended their run of games without defeat to three. For Real Sapphire, the slide down the slippery slope of poor results continues.
