Winning three games in a row while managing a clean sheet is not for everyone. But Gbagada showed that they’re a part of the few after their slim win at VOE.
The game, which started slow, picked up pace just after the 10th minute, as both sides came alive. The Blue Eagles would get the game’s first major call as they won a penalty in the 14th minute. The visitors however failed to make the most of their chance as Paulinus’ effort hit the woodwork.
The rest of the half, as eventful as it was, failed to produce a goal, with both sides guilty of failing to make the most of their chances. The narrative continued in the second half and the game looked destined for a draw.
But all of that changed in the 83rd minute as Gbagada broke the deadlock – and VOE hearts.
A cross from the right flank was hit by an onrushing Rilwan Gbadamosi. His left-footed strike however could only rebound off the woodwork and onto Yembra’s path. With an empty net at his mercy, he buried the chance to gift Gbagada the late winner.
For a third game in a row, Coach Akinyelu’s men have now managed a league win without conceding.
