A first win of the season saw Valiant replaced in the bottom spot by the team they defeated, Iganmu.
The five-goal thriller began with the visitors breaking the deadlock as early as the 18th minute. Olaniyan Gafar was one of the three Valiant players who beat the Iganmu offside line as raced towards the goalkeeper in a 3-v-1 situation. Gafar chose to shoot instead of squaring the ball to his teammate, putting the ball past a confused goalkeeper for the opening goal.
But the high-flying hosts were quickly drawn back in the 20th minute as Ibrahim Raheem converted from the spot.
It however didn’t take long for Valiant’s lead to be restored. And restore it they did, in style.
After dominating the game, the hosts won a freekick from 25-yards out. Maleek Sanusi stepped up and curled the ball past a fully-stretched Ohia Mikel, and into the top left corner of the post.
Talk about an early contender for goal of the season.
For all their dominance in play, Valiant failed to keep Iganmu at bay. And just before half-time, Iganmu drew level again, with Ibrahim Raheem scoring again.
The hosts would however have the last say, this time in the 56th minute, with Shenji Owen Kaor restoring his side’s lead. His goal equally condemned Iganmu to their fourth defeat of the season as it handed Valiant their first win of the season.
MAN OF THE MATCH
Maleek Sanusi (Valiant)
The winger put on a prolific display down the flanks, outpacing and outsmarting his opposite number. His superb goal was the cherry on the cake.
