Atlantic Business handed Beyond Limits their first loss of the season in a game that featured a heavy downpour of both rain and goals.
The game, which initially began on Sunday, saw the hosts dominate early proceedings. They were however met by a resilient Abass Wahab, whose antics in goal kept the visitors in the game.
10 minutes after kickoff, the clouds gave way to the rain. Despite the downpour, both sides intensified their search for the opener. And three minutes later, Atlantic Business got their breakthrough goal.
Friday Cornelius was on hand to exquisitely finish off a set-piece, finding the back of the net and putting the visitors ahead. That lead however lasted only two minutes as the hosts drew level in the 15th minute through Saka Yusuf.
In the 24th minute, with the rains getting heavier, Atlantic Business won a penalty which Donald Godwin converted to put Coach Daniel’s side back in the lead. After the goal, the game was suspended due to the weather conditions and was continued on Monday evening.
Upon a restart of the game, the hosts picked things up from where they left it, throwing a barrage of attacking moves at Atlantic’s defense in search of their equalizer. And it came 5 minutes from half-time, with Saka Yusuf scoring again and drawing his side level again.
The visitors would however have the final say of the half. And Aaron Inyam did it in some style. Receiving the ball just outside the 18-yard area, he curled a fierce shot into the top corner of Daniel Ayenugba’s goal, leaving the goalie flat-footed.
Nothing about a 15-minute break slowed down the game as both sides continued the second half as they finished off the first. While Beyond Limits struggled with Atlantic Business’ high line of defense and a dogged Abass in goal, the visitors sought to pick apart their opponents’ set-up.
In the 57th minute, they found their answer, getting the game’s sixth goal – an early Goal of the Season contender. Abass’ goal kick bounced off two heads before finding Donald Godwin. With his back to the goal, the striker pulled the trigger from 30 yards out, firing past Daniel who had been caught out.
In the 75th minute, another Daniel scored. This time it was Daniel Ariehi who pulled one back for the hosts, setting up a nervy final 15 minutes for the visitors. But Abass and his defense ensured that Atlantic Business had the final say in a rare victory over the reigning TCC Cup champions.
