Perilous Times for Imperial as Wait for First Home Win of the Year Continues

VOE picked up their second victory on the road this year with a 4-1 victory against Imperial.

The visitors began the contest the livelier of the two sides as they pressed for the early goal. Eight minutes after kick-off, they broke through Imperial’s high-line of defense, with Shogbaike Oluwasegun’s low shot putting the visitors in front.

Just before the half-hour mark, VOE doubled their tally. A defensive mix-up in the Imperial set-up left Adewuyi Ayomide with a simple tap-in. He did not miss as he extended his side’s lead. What seemed to be a smooth ride for the visitors hit its first bump in the 35th minute as Sabastine pulled one back for Imperial. But VOE would restore their two-goal lead in the second minute of stoppage time, with Folorunso Mayowa curling a free-kick beautifully into the net.

For all of Imperial’s attempts to half the deficit in the second half, they went on to concede the half’s first goal. A wicked deflection 12 minutes into the 2nd half saw the ball roll into the net, off a Lookman shot, without hindrance, to the dismay of the home supporters. They had been anticipating a first home win of the year in this clash. VOE however had other ideas as they ran out winners, leaving Imperial with more questions than answers.
