Sporting Lagos capped off their year with a 2-0 victory over Real Sapphire.
The Lagosians began the game the better side, forcing the reigning champions to spend more time in their own half. 14 minutes into the game, they broke the deadlock, Ephraim Luka jumping higher than everyone else to nod home from close range.
The visitors struggled to find their rhythm as they laboured to find the equalizer. That struggle continued until Faisal Umar doubled Sporting Lagos’ lead in the 79th minute. Umar, who had only been on for 15 minutes, snatched the ball from the center circle before dribbling his way through the opposition defense to double Sporting Lagos’ lead.
The result, while a massive win for the hosts, puts Real Sapphire’s hopes of a title defense into deeper jeopardy.
