Sporting Lagos Stump VOE in Massive Away Victory

VOE suffered back-to-back losses for the first time this season, losing 5-0 to Sporting Lagos.

The first 30 minutes of the game started with both sides equally matched, creating only a handful of chances. By the 31st minute, however, the direction of the game changed as Sporting Lagos got their opener: a VOE player turned the ball into his own net from an Ibrahim Abubakir cross.

Riding on the momentum, the visitors pressed for a second and got it six minutes later. Christopher Ibezimakor, from inside the 18-yard area, finished off a well-worked team move with a delightful strike, extending Sporting Lagos.

On the stroke of half-time, Ibrahim Abubakir’s cross caused the VOE defense trouble again. This time, it found Abuchi Lawrence, who headed the ball home at the far post, scoring in a third consecutive game.

An ambitious VOE side started the second half stronger, seeking to restore parity – or at least get their first goal of the game. This first goal however, didn’t come until the 72nd minute, and it was another Sporting Lagos goal.

Alabi Egedokun, who had only been on the pitch for three minutes, made the most of yet another Ibrahim Abubakir cross into the box. Unmarked, he lobbed the ball over the goalie, putting Sporting Lagos in cruise mode.

The visitors would add a fifth in the 90th minute, with Faisal Umar Salisy finishing off the hosts after a solo run. It’s Sporting Lagos’ biggest victory of the season, the second-biggest of the season till date.

MAN OF THE MATCH

Gafar Hammed (Sporting Lagos)

The goalkeeper made it look like a one-sided match, and in truth, it was down to his brilliance.
