Atlantic Business romped to an emphatic victory in their league opener as they put four past Dannaz.
Both sides, however, looked like they were still on holiday in the first half. The quiet half dragged on with not that much excitement for the watching fans. The game looked destined for a goalless draw until it came alive in the 65th minute.
Kilani Dimeji towered above all as he powered home a header to break the deadlock 25 minutes from time. Five minutes later, Coach Japheth’s side doubled their lead. But this one needed VAR confirmation. After a lengthy review, referee Bashir affirmed that the ball, which had bounced off Aniekan’s body, crossed the line before being cleared.
At this point, Dannaz’s train had lost steam. They would let in two more goals in the final 10 minutes of the game – Onikoyi (81’) and Aniekan Bassey (85’) – as they fell flat in their season opener. For the hosts, it’s an impressive start they’ll be looking to sustain as the season progresses.
