Real Sapphire, Beyond Limits clash in inaugural Super Cup match

TCC Cup champions Beyond Limits have emerged as the inaugural winners of the TCC Super Cup after a hard-fought 1-0 win over Real Sapphire at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena on Friday afternoon.

Fireworks were expected on the pitch, as the two teams clashed for just the sixth time in all TCC competitions. However, it was Olumide Ajibolade’s side that emerged champions in the end following Merveille Akinocho’s goal before the hour mark.

Expectedly, it was a cagey affair between the two teams under the hot weather conditions in Lagos. Beyond Limits had chances to go in front, but Sapphire goalkeeper Demehin Remilekun, who won the Golden Glove in the 2024/25 season, came up with strong stops to deny them, as well as some astute defending and the woodwork coming to their rescue.

At the other end, Nigeria U20 winger Bidemi Amole was the go-to outlet for the League champions as they tried to get going. However, the Ikenne side made things tight for them a bit.

In the end, Merveille’s goal was the match-winner. It came minutes before the hour mark, as the striker pounced on a loose ball after a reaction save from goalkeeper Demehin.

It is the first time Beyond Limits will be beating Real Sapphire, and they also went ahead to secure their seventh TCC title in all competitions(4 League titles, 2 Cup titles & Super Cup).

The 2025/26 TCC League season will kick off next weekend.
